School Production 2009

Just a short supplement to the previous article on the Little Shop of Horrors (final night tonight, if you haven't seen it, I advise you buy the remaining few tickets on the door), and the rumour that High School Musical will soon be staining our eyes and ears in the form of a school play.

Whether this is the plan or not, we're not sure, but no matter what, please support our Blues Brothers 2009 Campaign. It's definately possible to recreate as a school production (schools have done it before), and it's both one of the best comedies and best musicals of all time. It's an ideal choice. So if you happen to have lessons with any of the staff involved in the productions, or if you just fancy backing our campaign to honour one of the best musicals of all time, please recommend it to them. If enough people show an interest, they can't turn us down.

Other possibilities brought forward by those often associated with the annual shows are Sweeny Todd and Rocky Horror - though, by all accounts, they could be construed as too gruesome, offensive or sexual to warrant a school play based on them; and a watered down version just wouldn't do the same.

So remember to show your support for our Blues Brothers 2009 campaign. If you haven't seen the film, go pick up a copy now. It's a legend of a film. Unlike a certain High School Musical...

Bah. Lies!

The whole 'High School Musical' 'rumours' have been flying around since LAST year; they're nothing new, you fools. But it was NOT on the final list of Cook's chosen productions for this even this year, so the chances of it in '09 are slim to none. Kthnx.

We may not even have a hall next year.

We'll jave a fall of some manner, Melaisis - even if we resort to using the Sports Hall. And I wouldn't discount High School Musical from being in the running yet. We're not saying it's going to happen, but it's certainly less than impossible.

Sorry about that disasterous spelling. Bit of a hangover.

...You REALLY think Temple Moor could *afford* High School Musical?

It's a very recent Disney license!

Also, I doubt they want to associate themselves with pornography (lead actresses nude photos) when they already have a little sex scandal on their hands.

Ooooh saucy!

Blues Brothers ftw.

Sorry to let everyone down but investigating into the music department, it looks like 2009's show could be "We Will Rock You". This featuring most of the greatest hits from 'Queen'. Also the story having been written by the remaining members of Queen. If you want more info on it then wikipedia it. im sure there will be a blog about it on here sometime...

Yes, it's 99% certain we're featuring Queen's "We Will Rock You" musical as our production next year. Which, whilst I adore the music, I feel is a shame. Because not only is the whole plot a bit stupid, but the idea of having school students trying to sing Queen songs - in a way that doesn't feel so cheap and crappy compared to the real thing - just doesn't appeal.
At least, with the likes of Blues Brothers or Spamalot, you don't need to be a phenomenal singer. When trying to match up to Queen, you need to be really, really impressive. Good luck to all those who are thinking of getting involved though. And if there's still time, let's see if we can convince the staff to put on Blues Brothers after all.

If 'We Will Rock You' is put on next year, and the chances are very high, then fear not... It will be a very impressive production, as the standard of the shows at TMHS never fails to impress the (openminded) pupils at school.

At least give the show a chance, let us do the work...
Come watch and enjoy a brilliant show!
